August visit with Agnes and her boys

Adorable kids! Duane and Zach, plus Sande (a neighbor)
Zach had the idea to tie a string onto his toy car.

Pope was circumcised, like so many in Western
Province, where it happens every other
August in even-numbered years.

Duane and Zach in their school uniforms

Adu (Anderson)

Enjoying a simple lunch of chips, sausage, and soda

September visit, drying the maize

Zach helped bring in the maize.

Duane helped Agnes clean up every last kernel. No waste!

It was about to rain, so everyone chipped in and helped.

Many hands make light work.

Neighbor kids being silly for the camera

These two ears were among the other ones.
They look like "Indian corn".

Frying groundnuts (peanuts)

Breakfast - 'mobiles' and chai

Duane, Tony, and Zach

Pope made jam sandwiches.
I couldn't find any peanut butter :(

October visit, 3rd month in a row

Duane, with some of the stored maize and cobs.
Cobs are dried and used for cooking fuel.

Zach loves 'sandee-wiches'!
This time I brought peanut butter from Kitale :)

Duane really enjoyed doing this word-search puzzle.

Agnes and I visited Tony at his school.

Getting permission to leave school to do some needed shopping.

One of the common ways I get around in rural Kenya

Rivers of living water

"He who believes in me... out of his heart will flow rivers of living water."
- John 7:38

I had been meditating on this verse for a couple of days, during my last trip upcountry. It's a theme that Oswald Chambers often returns to.

I got to thinking that River Nzoia so aptly illustrates the concept and decided to videotape it. I hope you can hear my commentary over the roar of the river.

The following is Oswald Chamber's reading for September 6th -

A river touches places of which its source knows nothing, and Jesus says if we have received of His fullness, however small the visible measure of our lives, out of us will flow the rivers that will bless to the uttermost parts of the earth.

We have nothing to do with the outflow - "This is the work of God that ye believe..." God rarely allows a soul to see how great a blessing he is.

A river is victoriously persistent, it overcomes all barriers. For a while it goes steadily on its course, then it comes to an obstacle and for a while it is blocked, but it soon makes a pathway round the obstacle. Or a river will drop out of sight for miles, and presently emerge again broader and grander than ever. You can see God using some lives, but into your life an obstacle has come and you do not seem to be of any use.

Keep paying attention to the Source, and God will either take you round the obstacle or remove it. The river of the Spirit of God overcomes all obstacles. Never get your eyes on the obstacle or on the difficulty. The obstacle is a matter of indifference to the river which will flow steadily through you if you remember to keep right at the Source.

Never allow anything to come between yourself and Jesus Christ, no emotion, or experience; nothing must keep you from the one great sovereign Source.

Think of the healing and far-flung rivers nursing themselves in our souls! God has been opening up marvelous truths to our minds, and every point He has opened up is an indication of the wider power of the river He will flow through us.

If you believe in Jesus, you will find that God has developed and nourished in you mighty, rushing rivers of blessing for others.
